Holiday Update

12/30/2011, 7:35am CST
By Carson Kipfer, Co-Commissioner

Greetings, pond hockey fanatics!

We are just over 20 days away from the 2012 U.S. Pond Hockey Championships! Thought I’d send you a note to tell you what’s on my mind...

2012 USPHC Commemorative Prints

We are excited to announce that we have once again commissioned internationally renowned printmaking artist Chris Speakman to create the 2012 commemorative limited edition USPHC print. Each print is HAND MADE, signed by the artist, editioned, and dated. All prints are printed on a quality 100% cotton paper, archival & acid free. Only 100 prints of this year's artwork have been produced.

Check out this year's official artwork and place your pre-order before they sell out!

Teams Available

While the Rink Rat division has sold out, there are still a couple team spots available in the other divisions. Get ‘em while they’re hot!

Timberland Boot Hockey Tournament

For all of those non-skaters who are looking for an opportunity to participate in this year's event, we've created the Timberland Boot Hockey Tournament! Boot hockey games are scheduled for the evenings of January 20-21, 2011, with championship games being played during the morning and afternoon of Sunday, January 22nd.

The tournament is a light-hearted co-ed event that brings friends together to share in competition, camaraderie and a love of hockey... in their boots and for a great cause! Modeled after the social evening games that we grew to love in high-school and college, the Timberland Boot Hockey Tournament is as much a party as it is a competition. So get your friends together and come join us for the "evening session" on Lake Nokomis. The entry fee is an incredible value at $195 per team.

Current Ice Conditions

Despite the unseasonably tepid weather, the below freezing night-time temperatures keep adding to a solid ice base to Lake Nokomis. Current readings put ice depth at 7 to 4 inches. Looking forward to the upcoming cold snap that will greatly enhance the current depth.

In only a matter of weeks we’ll begin preparing our 25 USPHC rinks on Lake Nokomis for all of you!

Ice conditions continue to be updated on the "Nokomis LIVE" page of the U.S. Pond Hockey Championships website.

Host Hotels

We’re happy to offer special lodging deals through our official host hotels: the Courtyard Minneapolis Bloomington and the Depot Renaissance Minneapolis Hotel. Both locations are offering a special discounted rate for USPHC players as well as other player perks.

Learn more and reserve your room.

Join the 2012 USPHC Volunteer Corps!

If you're not playing in this year's tournament, there are still plenty of ways to get involved and be part of the 2012 U.S. Pond Hockey Championships! We’re looking for a few good men... women... and anyone else with a heartbeat to volunteer. We need help the weekend of the tournament, January 20-22.

We’re looking for hundreds of helping hands to get the show on the road (or as we say, to get the ice on the pond). Volunteers are needed for everything from door greeters to score runners and ice repair. Also, with more than 500 games in 3 days we need referees. Referees will be paid $10 per game and we provide training. All refs also get to wear stylin’ fluorescent yellow vests. Chicks dig it.

If you can pitch in, please sign up to be part of the 2012 USPHC Volunteer Corps! Muchas gracias.
