7th-annual U.S. Pond Hockey Championships!
Hockey. The way nature intended. Outdoors in the crisp winter air, skate blades gliding on the fresh ice below, with the sounds of clacking sticks and the smell of grilling bratwurst filling the air.
Reunite with your friends over a weekend when time can stand still and we can all be kids for three days. The champions will go down in history with their names etched into the Golden Shovel, a symbol of our lifelong love and passion for the purity of this outdoor game.
Volunteer Opportunities
Want to volunteer your time and help make the 2012 U.S. Pond Hockey Championships a mammoth success? Then you've come to the right place. Be a part of the "Best National Amateur Sporting Event" (Mpls./St. Paul Magazine) without even lacing up your skates. Hundreds of helping hands are needed to get the show on the road (or as we say, to get the ice on the pond). We could not have a successful tournament without our fabulous volunteers!
The following positions are available:
- Tournament Site Operations
Volunteers are needed for everything from door greeters to score runners and ice repair. With the help of our many volunteers we can ensure smooth sailing for pucks, players and fans! - Referee
With more than 600 games in 3 days we need referees to make it happen! Referees will be paid $10 per game. If you wish to donate your earnings to our worthy partners, the Herb Brooks Foundation and Dinomights will receive the benefits of your labor.
SPORT NGIN Youth Invitational
Ask any adult hockey player, and they’ll tell you that their skills and best memories have the same birthplace — pond hockey. That’s why this year, SPORT NGIN has teamed up with the U.S. Pond Hockey Championships to once again play host to the nation’s largest youth hockey pick-up event.
This year, we've invited dozens of area youth hockey associations to take advantage of Thursday evening "youth ice-time" on a USPHC rink to conduct friendly pick-up games amongst their teammates (under the lights!) on frozen Lake Nokomis.
This event will give kids a chance to experience hockey purity — no referees, no rigid rules and competition amongst friends and teammates.
