The quest for the Golden Shovel resumes Saturday, January 30th, 2010 at Lake Nokomis in Minneapolis.

Open Division

In the Open division, 23 of the original 32 teams that advanced last weekend will return to the ice. This weekend's playoff format follows exactly the same format as all previous year's – single-elimination tournament, in which teams are seeded by total game points, lowest total goals against and highest total goal differential. The 2009 champion (Concord USA) and runner-up (Cold Hands) automatically earn the 1 and 2 seeds respectively. The top 9 seeds in the Open division receive a first-round bye since there is not a full 32-team bracket. First-round games start at 8:30am; second-round games follow at 9:30am. All remaining Open division teams will have a break at 10:30am, with the quarterfinals taking place at 11:30am, semifinals at 12:30pm and Open division championship game at 1:30pm.

40+ Division

In the 40+ division, 3 of the original 4 teams that advanced last weekend return. The playoff format for this division switches to a round-robin tournament. Should a team go 2-0 in round robin play, they will be awarded the Golden Shovel. If all teams go 1-1, the two 40+ teams with the lowest total goals against (and highest total goal differential if needed) will play one more game to determine the winner of the Golden Shovel. The first 40+ division game starts at 8:30am; second at 9:30am; third at 10:30am. If needed, the top two 40+ teams will play for the championship at 11:30am.

50+ Division

In the 50+ division, 2 of the original 4 teams that advanced last weekend return. The 2009 and 2007 50+ champion (Leine's Mpls. Moose) will square off against the 2006 50+ champion (The Minneapolis Loons) in a winner take all championship game at 11:30am.
