THROW YOUR STICKS IN THE MIDDLE!

U.S. Pond Hockey Championships Will Host its First-Annual
Youth Hockey Pick-Up Event

Ask any adult hockey player, and they’ll tell you that their skills and best memories have the same birthplace — pond hockey. That’s why this year, the U.S. Pond Hockey Championships (USPHC) is playing host to the nation’s largest youth hockey pick-up event.

Beginning at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 24, 2010 on the frozen waters of Lake Nokomis in Minneapolis, this new addition to the USPHC will give kids a chance to experience hockey purity — no referees, no rigid rules and randomly selected teams. Teams will be determined by the time-tested “sticks in the middle” — a team selection method used by neighborhood rink rats for decades where all players toss their sticks in a pile and one of the players then randomly separates them into two groups.
