Prep under way for U.S. Pond Hockey Championships at Lake Nokomis

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Organizers have begun a week's worth of preparation work to allow about 2,000 hockey players on 300 teams to compete in this year's U.S. Pond Hockey Championships.

Lake Nokomis in Minneapolis will host the event again this year, and organizers say they have the 12 inches of ice needed to safely set up the boards on 26 rinks using trucks. Last year temperatures were too mild, and crews set everything up by hand.

While temperatures have been consistent enough to create a fairly smooth surface, crews will drill holes to pump water on the rinks to make them extra smooth, event commissioner Justin Kaufenberg said.

2013 USPHC Sponsors

Sport Ngin is the company behind the USPHC. We are a highly skilled team specializing in the execution of world-class sports content strategy, design, marketing and technology... and we LOVE hockey.

The following presenting sponsors have partnered with us to help fund the greatest pond hockey tournament in country and make it a great success! As you know, our goal is simply to break even while giving money to our charity partners (a line item in our budget) and to keep this incredible pond hockey tradition alive!

No one is more near and dear to our hearts than the organization who founded this incredible tournament seven years ago: Haberman, a media + marketing firm. Their vision still inspires every aspect of this great event.

We are proud to be associated with organizations who value "the pond" as much as we do. Please thank the 2013 USPHC "Hat Trick" Sponsors: Bud LightMuscle Milk, Tria Orthopaedic Center and Mountain Khakis. We kiss the ice you skate on!

Please support the incredible sponsors that make the U.S. Pond Hockey Championships possible: Total Hockey, Joe Senser's, Dick's Sporting Goods, Tradition Mortgage and Manplow.

A huge thanks to George Monson & Sons, the incredible snow removal and ice-ops crew that works through our crazy Minnesota weather to create the breathtaking rinks that grace the surface of Lake Nokomis!
